Cutch Dye extract - A concentrated form of Acacia catechu, commonly known as Cutch, is a natural dye derived from the heartwood of the tree. It has been used for centuries in traditional textile dyeing across South and Southeast Asia. The dye is extracted through a process of boiling the wood and evaporating the liquid to produce a concentrated powder or solid form.
Rich in tannins and catechins, Acacia catechu produces warm shades of brown, from light tan to deep chocolate, depending on the concentration and mordant used. It is especially effective on protein fibers such as wool and silk, but also works well on cellulose fibers like cotton and linen.
Dye Properties:
Color range: tan, golden brown, reddish-brown, chocolate
Contains high levels of natural tannins (useful for mordanting)
Good light- and wash-fastness
Can be combined with other dyes for deeper tones or modified with iron for greys and blacks
In addition to its dyeing properties, Acacia catechu is valued for its role in eco-printing, natural inks, and as a base for natural mordant printing techniques. Its versatility and rich tones make it a staple in the natural dyer’s palette.
