🌿 Tara Tannin Powder
Mild, Cream-Coloured Mordant Assist – Ideal for Cellulose Fibres
Tara Tannin, derived from the pods of the Caesalpinia spinosa tree (native to South America), is a high-quality, light-colored tannin ideal for use in natural dyeing. Known for its high tannin content and minimal color staining, it’s especially suited for mordanting light or pastel shades on cotton, linen, and hemp. Tara tannin is an excellent choice when clarity and softness of color are important.
Key Features:
100% pure, plant-based tara pod extract
High in gallotannins (~40–50%)
Pale cream tone – ideal when working with light or bright dyes
Improves mordant uptake and colorfastness on cellulose fibres
Useful in printing, immersion dyeing, and mordant layering
Dyeing & Mordanting Notes:
Use as the first step in mordanting plant-based fibers (before alum)
Minimal interference with final dye color – keeps shades clear and bright
Can be modified with iron to create soft greys or olive tones
Also suitable for use in ink making, eco-printing, and botanical contact dyeing
Suggested Use (per 100g of fiber):
As a tannin mordant: Use 10–15% WOF
Dissolve in hot water and soak fibers for 1–2 hours
Rinse or dry before following with an alum mordant
Can be used alone or combined with other tannins for varied effects
