💛 Myrobalan Dye Powder ~ Terminalia chebula
Tannin-Rich Natural Dye – Soft Yellows & Essential Mordant Base
Myrobalan Powder, made from the dried fruit of the Terminalia chebula tree, is a versatile and essential ingredient in natural dyeing. With its high tannin content, myrobalan is commonly used as a mordant assist for cellulose fibers (like cotton and linen), while also producing soft yellow to greenish tones when used as a dye in its own right.
Key Features:
100% pure ground Terminalia chebula fruit
High in natural tannins – ideal for preparing plant-based fibers for dyeing
Produces pale yellows, earthy greens, or acts as a base for over-dyeing
Perfect for cotton, linen, and other cellulose fibers
Supports richer, longer-lasting color when used before other dyes
Dyeing & Mordanting Notes:
Use as a pretreatment for cellulose fibers before applying natural dyes
Can be used alone as a subtle yellow dye
Reacts well with iron to produce grey-green or olive tones
Excellent for printing pastes, bundle dyeing, and layered techniques
As a dye: Use 20-30% WOF
As a tannin mordant: Use 15–20% WOF
Simmer gently for 30–45 minutes, strain before dyeing or mordanting
Mordanted fabrics can be dried and stored before dyeing
